I paid good $10 for a flu shot this year.
Saturday morning, I woke up to the routine: fed dog, brew coffee, walked dog, came back, and turned on the computer. Hmm, was that a cold sneaking up on me? I decided to take it easy and not run my usual Saturday 5 miles.
Sunday, I woke up, thinking of the routine, then went to bed, thank you very much. Sunday night, I sent this message to work:
Subject: WFH Monday
Why come to the office if I cannot talk? Hmm… Can’t come up with one.
My sore-throat greatly compromised my ability to communicate verbally. That and a slight fever sealed the deal. I am Work-From-Home Monday in hope for a better participation on Tuesday’s Big Meeting.
I will be on email. Guess you can try to call me too. 🙂
The throat was shearing hurt. I couldn’t talk or swallow. I did 5 to 6 times of salt water garglings Monday and drank lot of medicinal teas. Monday Night, another message went out.
It does not seem my speaking capacity is improving. I have done many
homeo therapies and stayed away from alcohol and coffee. My fever
subsided, but throat is not getting better.
I am not sure that I will regain working capacity by tomorrow. Sorry if
I shall miss the 1st day of the Big Meeting.
Tuesday was an in-and-out day. I dozed off at the recliner 3 times and went to bed early. I bravely gave my status at FaceBook: “Sin-Yaw Wang is crawling back from a 4-day sore-throat and fever episode.”
Wednesday morning, I assessed, “Hmm, may be I am OK now.” I went to work.
Wednesday night.
Subject: When it rains, it pours.
Why did I come to work today? After 9 to 5 back to back meetings, I came home exhausted, ached with heightened fever, and…
An infected right eye that is getting more and more similar to an walnut. (No idea how that happened.)
I will try to go to the doctor tomorrow. I am not coming in, sorry to miss the tech forum the 2nd time. There is a pretty good chance that I won’t come in Friday either.
Thursday afternoon, after post-lunch nap, I replied to Steven:
You looked remarkably well yesterday, but it didn’t sound good when you told me that you were only about 65% recovered.
Well, I work up this morning at 9:30am with a pounding headache and *two* infected eyes. Went to the doctor at 10:30am. Fell asleep at the pharmacy waiting for my drugs. Ate something for lunch and collapsed into the bed until just about now.
Whatever I used to display yesterday, I probably shouldn’t have.
Whoever get this one next, don’t underestimate it.
Then I dozed off around 4:30pm. Woke up hungry! It is so great to feel hungry. Wife made me congee, traditional Chinese comfort food. I had 3 bowls!
Thursday night’s me was a sedentary couch potato. After CSI, I went straight to bed.
Woke up Wife in the middle of the night, coughing myself to the point of choking. Felt my way to the kitchen for the cough syrup. Contemplated its taste while realizing the time was 2:30am. Waited for the cough to subside in the darkness. Felt my way back to the bed. Unconscious after.
Ran, Monday evening, 2.5 miles, slowly.
Ran again, Tuesday afternoon, 2 miles. Weighed myself in the gym. I lost 2 pounds. It was a nice, warm, bright and blue day. Wonderful.
