She lived here for the last two of her high school year.  Her friend never set foot in China what-so-ever.  They planned a full agenda: sight seeing, restaurants she missed, friends to reminisce, surprise birthday party (she is the surprise), etc.<\/p>\n<p>I was just getting used to this serene, orderly, tidy empty-nester life.  Their arrival mercilessly transformed it with semi-chaotic whirl-wind of  activities catered to the whims of young college kids.  It was very nice to see my kid; also nice to feel the calmness crawling back after they have left.<\/p>\n<table border=\"3\" align=\"left\" cellpadding=\"2\" bgcolor=\"#FFFFCC\" width=\"100%\" style=\"float: none\">\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 1<\/td>\n<td>Arrival.  She almost gave her birthday friend a heart-attack jumping out of a box as a surprise.  Dinner at A-Che, a Carribean restaurant on DongZhiMenWai (\u00e4\u00b8\u0153\u00e7\u203a\u00b4\u00e9\u2014\u00a8\u00e5\u00a4\u2013).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 2<\/td>\n<td>Morning to the Forbidden City (\u00e6\u2022\u2026\u00e5\u00ae\u00ab).  Drove by the almost finished CCTV tower and marveled at the design.  Mother met them near the north gate and brought them to a hot-pot lunch.  After Temple of Heaven (\u00e5\u00a4\u00a9\u00e5\u009d\u203a), they came to the office to pick me up back home.  We swang by Olympic venues: Water Cube and Bird&#8217;s Nest.  DingTaiFeng (\u00e9\u00bc\u017d\u00e6\u00b3\u00b0\u00e4\u00b8\u00b0) dinner with a friend.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 3<\/td>\n<td>Great Wall at JuYongGuan (\u00e5\u00b1\u2026\u00e5\u00ba\u00b8\u00e5\u2026\u00b3).  Toured <i>Commune under the Great Wall<\/i> (\u00e9\u2022\u00bf\u00e5\u0178\u017d\u00e8\u201e\u0161\u00e4\u00b8\u2039\u00e7\u0161\u201e\u00e5\u2026\u00ac\u00e7\u00a4\u00be), an ultra-modern hotel designed as a commune of individual houses.  They skipped lunch and came home for dinner.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 4<\/td>\n<td>I tour-guided them at Summer Palace (\u00e9\u00a2\u0090\u00e5\u2019\u0152\u00e5\u203a\u00ad) and DongYue Temple (\u00e4\u00b8\u0153\u00e5\u00b2\u00b3\u00e5\u00ba\u2122).   There is an hour or so before the dinner when we came back, so I dropped them off at YaShow (\u00e9\u203a\u2026\u00e7\u00a7\u20ac) for some touristic shopping.  Lunch as JiaoZi (\u00e5\u00a4\u00a9\u00e6\u00b4\u00a5\u00e7\u2122\u00be\u00e9\u00a5\u00ba\u00e5\u203a\u00ad) restaurant.  Peking Duck (\u00e5\u00a4\u00a7\u00e8\u2018\u00a3) for dinner.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 5<\/td>\n<td>They went hiking at Fragrance Hill (\u00e9\u00a6\u2122\u00e5\u00b1\u00b1).  At around noon, they went to XiDan (\u00e8\u00a5\u00bf\u00e5\u008d\u2022) directly for shopping.  McDonald for lunch.  Belagio (\u00e9\u00b9\u00bf\u00e6\u00b8\u00af\u00e5\u00b0\u008f\u00e9\u2022\u2021) with a friend.\n\t\t<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 6<\/td>\n<td>WangFuJing, hair-cut, birthday party followed by KTV.\n\t\t<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 7<\/td>\n<td>PanJiaYuan (\u00e6\u00bd\u02dc\u00e5\u00ae\u00b6\u00e5\u203a\u00ad) then Beijing Planning Exhibit Hall (\u00e5\u0152\u2014\u00e4\u00ba\u00ac\u00e8\u00a7\u201e\u00e5\u02c6\u2019\u00e5\u00b1\u2022\u00e6\u008f\u00bd\u00e9\u00a6\u2020).  Lunch at KongYiJi (\u00e5\u00ad\u201d\u00e4\u00b9\u2122\u00e5\u00b7\u00b1).  Dinner at Very Siam (\u00e9\u009d\u017e\u00e5\u00b8\u00b8\u00e6\u00b3\u00b0).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"109\">Day 8<\/td>\n<td>Leave home at 9am, depart from new Terminal 3.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am quite impressed.  They packed lots of activities into a week.  I was almost tempted to send them to Xi&#8217;An for a day trip, the real cost for that is 2 dinners slots.
